Course description

A-level chemistry is a vital qualification for students wishing to study science based courses, including medicine, at university. Chemistry is the „central science‟ standing between biology and physics, and informing both, so it is useful for people interested in both these other sciences.

Chemistry will open your mind to the structure of materials, the properties they have and the reactions they undergo. Some of it is mathematical, and some of it is descriptive. There are many mind-blowing ideas to get your head round and many exciting practicals to carry out.

Course content

Students study physical chemistry (including atomic structure, the mole concept and bonding); inorganic chemistry (The halogens and transition metals); and organic chemistry (hydrocarbons, isomerism and reaction mechanisms).

Entry requirements

5 x A*-C grades at GCSE including a minimum of 2 x B grades in Double Science or if studying triple science a B is needed in Chemistry
