Music Practitioners - Level 3 Diploma at Yorkshire Coast College

Course description

The Level 3 Diploma for Music Practitioners is aimed at learners who are already reasonably experienced musicians or those who would like to study for an A Level / BTEC Level 3 equivalent qualification.

Learners can choose from two pathways, the Performing Musician pathway or Digital Musician pathway.

Course content

Performing Musician pathway

On this course you will study:

  • Live music performance
  • Performance to camera
  • Rehearsal skills
  • Music video production
  • Event management
  • Music promotion
  • Recording skills
  • Lyric writing
  • Instrumental studies on your chosen instrument (typically guitar, bass, vocals or keyboards)

Digital Musician pathway

On this course you will study:

  • Composing music styles
  • Sequencing and production
  • Instrumental studies
  • Music video production
  • Music for TV and adverts
  • Recording skills

Entry requirements

In order to get a place on the course you will need to do a successful audition on instrument or voice. We prefer that you have 5 GCSE Grades at A-C including English or equivalent Level 2 qualifications. A Grade 5 music qualification in your chosen instrument or voice is also  desirable but not essential.

Future opportunities

Upon successful completion of the Level 3 Diploma for Music Practitioners you could choose to enter directly into the world of work.

If you would like to progress further into Higher Education you could study for a Foundation Degree in Events Management right here at Yorkshire Coast Collegeor, for those with who chose the Performing Musician Route, progress onto our Level 4 Artist Development Programme.

Today many Musicians are either self-employed or undertake a ‘composite-career' which means they'll have another career, such as teaching, which they’ll do alongside performance work.

Our former learners are successfully working in music related jobs as live Sound Engineers, Music Technicians, Instrument Repair Specialists, Teachers and Performers. 

The local average wage on entry into a career in the Music Industry – depending on qualification – is £14,000a

      Refectory and Square Cat Café

      Our refectory at Lady Edith's Drive is the perfect place to relax and unwind, whether you want a quick snack, a healthy lunch or just to catch up with friends. Breakfast is served every weekday from 8.30am until 11am, after this a huge choice foods are available including a range of premium sandwiches, pizzas, salads, paninis, and jacket potatoes. Our two campuses each have their own refectories. 

      The Square Cat Café at Westwood is a great place to catch-up with friends. We offer hot and cold drinks and snacks. From time-to-time you might even catch a live performance from performing arts students.

      Our Learner Engagement Team also provide other activities across both sites throughout the year.

      Common Room

      The learner common room on Lady Edith's Campus is located on the ground floor and near the LRC. Here you can relax with your friends and play a game or pool and our Learner Engagement team are always on hand to help you or provide information on a range of activities they are organising. 

      Learning Resource Centre

      We have two interactive Learning Resource Centres across Yorkshire Coast College providing lending, reference and information services and offering you the chance to utilise the latest technologies and study aids. Our Learning Centres are also linked to the British Library, meaning no matter what you need, you will always have access to it. 

      ICT, Moodle & Wifi

      Yorkshire Coast College has a great range of academic facilities for both students and staff. Feel free to check books out from our libraries and use our professional printing services amongst our many other facilities at Yorkshire Coast College.

      Computing Services

      Our ICT suites and ultra-modern facilities mean that your training and studies will see you networking computer systems, designing databases, manipulating graphics and images and learning more about hardware principles and user support. Both practical and theoretical study will play a major part in your course giving you a wide range of skills and knowledge, while working with the latest technologies.

      Printing Services

      Our Repro facility offers both students and the general public, first class business stationery, educational printing as well as a host of photographic and print finishing services, including both black and white and full colour prints.
