English Literature AS & A2 at Smith's Wood Sports College

Course description

This course will last: 1 year AS, 2 years for A2

This will suit students who wish to continue English Literature from GCSE. Students must have achieved a B grade in English Literature for GCSE and generally enjoy reading.

 

 

 

 

Course content

You will learn to analyse poems, plays and novels and to draw comparisons between them. You will also learn to explore critical points of view in relation to the set texts.

 

Entry requirements

Entry requirements to A Level courses are high and the College expects the minimum of a B grade in the subject at GCSE along with a C grade in English and Mathematics (GCSE).

 

 

Assessment

AS level:

2 hour written exam, worth 60%, and two 1200-1500 word coursework Essays worth 40% of the AS level.

A2 level:

2 hour written exam, worth 60%, and two 2 1500—2000 word coursework essays, worth 40%.
