Course description

Further Mathematics 1

FP1 Series; complex numbers; numerical solution of equations; coordinate systems, matrix algebra, proof

Further Mathematics 2

FP2 Inequalities; series, first order differential equations; second order differential equations; further complex numbers, Maclaurin and Taylor series.

Further Mathematics 3

FP3 Further matrix algebra; vectors, hyperbolic functions; differentiation; integration, further coordinate systems.

Career Pathways

If you are considering studying Mathematics at University then you should seriously consider studying Further mathematics to at least AS level. Some universities require Further mathematics others just consider it an advantage.

Entry requirements

In the first year of the Sixth Form, students are expected to follow at least 3 subjects. Most will choose 4.

A minimum of 5 grade Cs are required to undertake A Levels and a grade B is recommended in your chosen subjects. An A or A* grade is necessary in Maths GCSE to take Further Mathematics A Level.
