Art and Design Level 2 at Northampton College
This fast-paced course will help you decide in which area of Art and Design you wish to specialise, build your confidence and prepare you for entry on to BTEC Nationals, specialist A Levels or employment. You will explore a diverse range of specialisms within Art and Design, including drawing, fine art, textiles, photography and graphic design and work in a range of media and materials from charcoal to electronic media. You will be guided and supported throughout the course which is based on internally set and assessed projects. All project work includes opportunities to develop literacy and numeracy skills and students who have not gained GCSE C Grade for Mathematics and/or English will resit these qualifications alongside their BTEC First Diploma. A BTEC Level 2 Diploma is equivalent to 4 GCSEs Grades A*-C.
The course is aimed at students who want to pursue a career in Art and Design and can demonstrate an enthusiasm for those subjects.
4 GCSEs at Grade D or above including English and Art or a Foundation Level qualification in Art and Design and equivalent Functional Skills qualification. You will also need a portfolio of artwork demonstrating your ability in Art and Design.
On the BTEC First Diploma in Art and Design students will take a total of 9 units to complete the qualification. These will include 6 core units, 2 optional units. All work is internally set and assessed and may be moderated by the exam board. All units are graded P (Pass), M (Merit), D (Distinction) or D* (Distinction star). Students are required to achieve a minimum of a pass in each unit to achieve the full qualification grade.
A BTEC Level 2 Diploma provides a good grounding to go on to more advanced courses such as BTEC Level 3 Diplomas in:- Art and Design- Fashion and Clothing - Photography- Media You could also consider A Levels, other training schemes or employment.To progress to any Level 3 course you will need to achieve BTEC Level 2 Diploma with a Merit Grade or above and GCSE English (or equivalent) at Grade C or above.
Students aged 19 or over at the start of the course will be required to pay a BTEC registration fee of approximately £130. A materials fee of approx. £75 is payable at enrolment, this covers all the specialist materials you use during the course, in addition to that you will pay students will be expected to pay for trips to galleries and exhibitions (approx. £30) All of the above amounts are approximate and payable at enrolment.
