ICT AS/A2 Level at Nottingham Academy

Course description

This new specification provides the ideal foundation for those

students who wish to pursue ICT at degree level or as a career.


The emphasis is now focused on the use of ICT in a business

context so students can gain develop a wide range of ICT skills

together with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of

ICT that can be transferred into the business world.

Course content

During this course, students develop the capacity to think

creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically and critically as

they look at ICT in a range of contexts to solve problems and

develop an understanding of the effect of ICT society. At AS

you will study two units: the examination unit and the

structured ICT tasks in which you will apply the knowledge

and skills you have acquired to complete a series of structured

ICT tasks. At A2 you will complete an examination and an ICT

project demonstrating your ability to be a discerning user

of ICT.

– G061: Information, Systems and Applications (examination).

– G062: Structured ICT Tasks (coursework).


Units covered at A2

– G063: ICT Systems, Applications and Implications


– G064: ICT Project (coursework).

Entry requirements

5+ A*-C grades at GCSE including C grade or above in English

and mathematics.


At AS level, the Information, Systems and Applications unit is

assessed via written examination, structured ICT Tasks is

assessed on coursework. At A2 level ICT Systems, Applications

and Implications is assessed via written examination, ICT

Project is assessed on coursework.

Future opportunities

In today’s world, where ICT is constantly changing, individuals

will increasingly need technological and information literacy

skills. These skills are now as essential as the traditional skills

of numeracy and literacy.


As well as the rapid development of new technologies, familiar

technologies like television, telephone and computers are

evolving and being expanded by digitised information.


As a result of this, there is a growing need for individuals who can

master and manipulate these new technologies. Whatever you

plan to do, an ICT qualification is a smart move.
