Course description

The course for you if ...

You want to further your skills with extensive knowledge of electrical, mechanical or welding methods and a deeper understanding of techniques and operations.

Course content

You will study a mix of the following units: Working efficiently, effectively and safely in an engineering environment; Using, interpreting and communicating technical information; Producing components using hand-fitting techniques; Preparing and using lathes for turning operations; Wiring and testing electrical equipment and circuits; Fabrication techniques and sheet metalwork; CAD; Applied electrical and mechanical science; Electronic devices and communications applications; Electronic circuit construction; and Mathematics for technicians.

You will be working in excellent facilities, using industry-standard equipment safely. You will be taught by engineers with vast industrial experience and close relationships with some of the region's largest engineering employers.

Entry requirements

Three GCSEs at Grade D or above, preferably including Maths and English, or Science and English; or PEO Level 1. An interview with a course tutor is also required.


Assessment is by coursework and practical assignments.

Future opportunities

You may be able to progress onto a Level 3 qualification to enhance your skills and expertise for a career in engineering. This PEO Level 2 course is respected and valued by employers and training agencies alike. It is a component of the Advanced
Apprenticeship Framework and gives you the essential practical knowledge needed to progress towards a career in engineering.
