Art and Design - Textiles A-Level at King's Oak Academy

Course description

Ever wanted to make your own fabrics, design your own prints and create unique fashion pieces? Textiles offers you opportunities to learn and develop a variety of exciting, creative & decorative techniques.

Course content

Year 1

Unit 1a: Surface decoration Techniques In the first few months you will build up a sketch book of experimental textile surface embellishing, such as free machine embroidery, felting and dyeing.
Unit 1b: An independent choice of starting point that will develop your textile skills further to produce a creative outcome. 
Unit 2: 5 hour controlled Assignment. Own choice stimulus.

Year 2

Unit 3: Personal Investigation. A piece of research based on a textile theme of your choice; historical or Contemporary. Then produce an outcome of your choice using the textile or construction skills you have learnt. 
Unit 4: 15 hour Controlled Assignment. Own choice stimulus.

 

Entry requirements

Minimum grade C at GCSE in either Textiles, Product Design or Art.

Assessment

Teacher assessed and externally moderated.

Foundation Diploma in art & design. Fashion design, textile design, print design and interior design BA Hons courses.
