ENGLISH LITERATURE at The Weald School

Course description

Do you enjoy reading? If so, this course is for you! At AS level the English Literature course provides an opportunity to focus on literature centred around World War 1. Emphasisis placed on understanding genre and students are encouraged to make personal responses to a wide range of materials. Widereading and independent research are key aspects of the course. Coursework enables students to choose either an analytical orcreative response to texts. The A2 course entitled ‘Love Through The Ages’ gives the students the opportunity to tackle a much broader topic area while still focussing on the importance of genre, wide reading and independent research. Coursework provides an opportunity to study a Shakespeare play, in depth, which will be used in comparison with two other texts.

Entry requirements

Be a confident and analytical reader and a fluent, accurate writer

Preferred minimum grades: C in English and C in English Literature

Have an interest in reading a wide variety of literature from each genre: prose, poetry and drama
