French GCSE at Samuel Lister Academy

Course description

The course enables the student to give and seek practical information in French in the social, tourist and working environment. The four communication skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing are developed at basic and/or higher levels.

Course content

Our lessons are planned to be creative and interactive and we look for opportunities to take the learning outside the classroom. Our students enjoy developing their learning in pairs and groups and are taught the skills needed to work with other people.

You will learn to :

Develop understanding of the spoken and written forms of French in a range of contexts.

Develop knowledge and understanding of the grammar of French and the ability to apply it.

Develop knowledge and understanding of France and French-speaking countries.

Entry requirements

No formal qualifications.


Students will be assessed through examinations and coursework.

Future opportunities

The course provides a suitable foundation for further study and/or practical use of French.

Further information

All our classrooms have interactive whiteboards and we have access to a variety of software. Authentic materials are used regularly in Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) and we have the support of a Foreign Language Assistant. Our classrooms are well equipped and we are proud to display the work of our students.
