Course description

This course is designed to equip you with the skills, understanding and knowledge required for successful employment in the uniformed public services such as the Armed Forces, the Police Force and various emergency services. You will learn transferable skills that will enable you to meet changing circumstances in employment, whether you are in a general role or promotion to supervisory or management roles.

This qualification has been developed to meet the need of major areas of public service and there is an increasing demand for suitably qualified candidates in this area. This qualification will provide the skills to progress to BTEC Higher National or degrees. The course contains both elements of academic and practical learning. Successful students will complete a range of classroom based activities, physical challenges and expedition tasks. Assessment takes place in the form of a number of assignments.

Citizenship and Diversity in the Public Services. Leadership and Teamwork in the Public Services.
Behaviour in Public Sector Employment.
Physical Preparation, Health and Lifestyle for the Public Services.
Understanding the Impact of War, Conflict and Terrorism on Public Services.
Skills for Land-Based and Outdoor and Adventurous Activities.

Entry requirements

The minimum entry requirement for a BTEC National Award is five Grade C GCSEs.

Assessment

Coursework based.

Future opportunities

Higher Education- University- HND in Public Services. Various other degree/diploma options. Employment- In all of the uniformed public services, Civil service. Highly regarded by many employers, especially jobs involving teamwork and leadership.
