Beauty Therapy (Tech Level) - VTCT Level 3 Diploma at East Durham College

Course description

This qualification is designed for learners who wish to pursue a career as a beauty therapist. Learners will develop knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with clients and provide a wide range of of specialised facial and body treatments. Students will also develop knowedge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology and other related essential knowledge. Learners will work in a busy commercial salon environment and develop communication and customer service skills together with research and problem solving skills.

Entry requirements

It is expected students will have achieved either one of the following qualifications.

Level 2 Beauty Therapy
Level 2 Hair and Media make-up


Students are assessed throughout the course both practically and theoretically. Assessment is set, marked and internally quality assured to demonstrate achievement of learning outcomes. Students will complete a final synoptic practical assessment. Learners will also produce a portfolio of evidence to meet learning outcomes as specified. Externally assessed question papers completed electronically will be set and marked by the examination board.

Financial information

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

Future opportunities

This qualification is designed for learners wishing to pursue a career as an employed and / or self employed beauty therapist. Upon completion of this qualification learners will be eligible to become members of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) or the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT). Employment opportunities may include; Destination or Day Spas, Health Farms, Cruise Liners, Airlines, Hotel Chains, Commercial Salons, Care Homes, Independent/Self Employed/Mobile or Home Based Settings.

Further information

The primary purpose of this qualifcation is to prepare learners for employment, however upon completion of this course learners may choose to progress to Level 4 in Salon Management and Advanced Beauty Therapy Techniques.
