Philosophy A Level at Halesowen College

Course description

Philosophy is the exploration of knowledge, existence and ethics through rational argument. You won't just be expected to explore the history of philosophical ideas from Ancient Greece to modern day. You will also be encouraged to develop your own philosophical arguments and reconsider your deeply held convictions about the world.

Entry requirements

  • At least 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C across a range of subject areas, including both English Language and English Literature.

You will need to retake GCSE Maths as part of your programme if you do not have a grade C. You may be advised to retake GCSE Science, depending on your chosen career.


Assessment

The course is assessed by written essay-based exams.

Further information

In the past, philosophy students have been on trips to Paris, Dublin and Amsterdam. We've also held conferences on philosophical topics in College and been on visits to other colleges and universities for debates and discussions.
