English IGCSE Resit at The Oxford Academy
AQA English Language consists of two papers, both which assess reading and writing.
Paper One requires students to read an extract from a fiction text and answer four questions.
The skills required are retrieval, language analysis, structural analysis and critical evaluation.
The writing question will be either narrative or descriptive.
Paper Two requires students to read two extracts from non-fiction texts and answer four questions.
The skills required are synthesis, summarising, language analysis and comparison.
The writing question will be linked to the themes and ideas from the two non-fiction extracts and will require students to present a point of view.
It is expected that all students attending Advance Sixth Form will take this course if they have not yet been successful in attaining GCSE English at level 4 or above.
Spelling, punctuation and grammar are assessed on both papers.
