Physics is a key part of science and technology and includes related topics such as nuclear and atomic physics, mechanics, waves and force fields. Physics is used to solve many problems ranging from health, environmental concerns and technological advances necessary for the 21st Century. AS includes Information technology and communication for today's needs, quarks to quasars, forces underpinning everyday activities, and the EMPA component.
A2 includes Rocket science, conservation laws, kinetic theory, energy from the nucleus, electric and magnetic fields and the EMPA component.
B grades in GCSE Science and GCSE Additional Science with at least B grades in the Physics components of these two GCSEs, as well as C grades in Maths and English.
AS level year 12: 2 x written papers, both in June. Students' investigative and practical skills will be assessed throughout the year by the teacher.
A2 level year 13: 2 x written papers, both in June. Students' investigative and practical skills will again be assessed throughout the year by the teacher.
With a Physics qualification you could choose to work in engineering, a hospital, a laboratory team or in education. There are jobs in industry working with the development of materials, technology and computing, and particularly more recently, the nuclear industry.
