Performing Arts BTEC Extended Certificate (Single) Level 3 at The Abbey School

Course description

The Extended Certificate suits learners who have a keen interest in dance/drama/Musical Theatre. The Extended Certificate is for learners who are interested in learning about the performing arts sector alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in performing arts. All students will be expected to complete an individual audition in the first term of study in a discipline of their choice – acting/dance/combination.

Entry requirements

5 A*-C GCSEs to include:

C grade in GCSE Dance or GCSE Drama or an individual audition with Miss Rogers

C grade in GCSE English is desirable.

Assessment

Units studied may include: 

  • Unit 1 Investigating Practitioners’  Work – examination based.
  • Unit 2 Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performance – practical based coursework unit with final performance assessment.
  • Unit 3 Group Performance Workshop – practical based examination with final performance assessment and milestone log coursework.
  • Unit 28 Variety Performance – practical based coursework unit with final performance assessment where students can perform using a range of disciplines – acting/dance/singing/Musical Theatre/Variety Act.

Future opportunities

Students completing this certificate can progress to university or college to study BTEC Higher Qualifications (Level 4/5). Due to the vocational nature of this qualification, students will also be able to build the skills necessary to seek employment in a Performing Arts related industry.
