Mathematics at Droitwich Spa High School
The course consists of six modules. 3 are completed in year 12 and the remaining 3 in year 13. In year 12 for Advanced Subsidiary Level these modules are Core 1, Core 2 and Statistics 1. In year 13 the students complete their study for Advanced level mathematics by studying Core 3, Core 4 and Mechanics 1.
The four Core units involve the study of mathematical concepts and methods. Aspects of algebra, trigonometry and vectors are developed further, and calculus.
Mechanics is the most significant application area as it is used as a major vehicle for mathematical modelling.
Statistics modules extend the work experienced in GCSE in the areas of data handling and probability.
Students will need to have a grade B or higher in GCSE Mathematics and have followed the Higher Level Specification during Key Stage 4.
