Business Skills and Entrepreneurship BTEC Diploma Level 1 at The Manchester College

Course description

Are you interested in setting up your own business in the future? Do you just want to find out what it’s really like to work in a big organisation? Would you like to be a manager of a big company one day? Whatever your interest in the business world, this Level 1 Diploma is the perfect introduction. Throughout the course, you’ll be developing business skills that are relevant to any office environment and entrepreneurial abilities to help you succeed in a number of different careers. You’ll learn how to research a business in your area, how to present a business idea, how to organise meetings effectively, and even how to brand a new product or run an event! You’ll also get to take part in a number of different enterprise activities, like competitions, role plays and class projects, each giving you a real insight into what you’ll need to manage a business.

Entry requirements

Anyone can apply for this course with us, as you don’t require any formal qualifications. An Entry Level 3 qualification and GCSEs at grade D-G would be beneficial, but they are not essential.


For this course, assessment will take place through a variety of different tasks, including role plays, group work, written course work and presentations.

With this BTEC Level 2 Diploma, you’ll be able to progress onto our Level 2 Business Skills with Entrepreneurship course at The Manchester College. You’ll develop your knowledge and ability further, and be able to continue onto even higher level courses.Each qualification you achieve will take you closer to your ideal job in the business world, giving you all the skills you need to have a successful career. You could find yourself in a huge number of different roles in this sector, including being a manager in customer services, HR, administration, retail, finance or even marketing!

    • Northenden Campus is a large, welcoming campus, offering a wide range of courses for school leavers, apprentices, adults and university-level students. We’ve invested £2 million in the campus to make it a great place to study vocational and academic courses.       Local area

      Northenden is a suburb of south Manchester. There are shops, a supermarket, restaurants and takeaways 15 minutes’ walk from the campus in central Northenden. There are also a small supermarket and shops closer to the campus. Northenden is surrounded by green space. The campus is minutes away from Gib Lane Wood and Wythenshawe Park which includes a community farm. It is also close to the Mersey Valley nature reserve; a riverside walk through miles of countryside and parkland.
