Sport BTEC at Teign Academy

Course description

Broadly equivalent to one A Level If chosen as an AS level at the end of year 12 you would still achieve the level 3 certificate in sport. No exam – assessed by coursework & observation 5 lessons a week Mixture of theory and practical delivery Areas of study enable specialisms and all round sports knowledge to develop. Opportunities are provided for experience throughout the vocational sports sector. You will also have the chance to complete your Level Two Sports Leadership qualification in year 12 after school and your Higher Sports Leadership qualification in year 13 which can give you an additional 30 UCAS points. This will also reduce the content required for the BTEC as the qualification frameworks match – this gives the added bonus of providing more time in year 13 to perfect and develop units to provide the best chance of the highest attainment possible. Year 12 Units: *Principles of Anatomy & Physiology in Sport *The Physiology of Fitness; *Assessing Risk in Sport *Principles & Practices in Outdoor Education (we are looking to run a residential as part of this unit) Year 13 Units: *A choice of either ‘Practical Team Sports’ or ‘Practical Individual Sports’ *Leadership in Sport *Fitness Testing for Sport & Exercise

Future opportunities

This qualification provides the flexibility to either move straight into the vocational work force or move on to higher education. The options are extensive depending on which route is taken: Sports coaching, nutrition, physiotherapy, massage, PE teaching, personal training, sports development, PTI in the forces etc.
