Food Technology (Design & Technology) AS/A2 at Sir Frederic Osborn School

Course description

This course is designed for students who
have enjoyed and achieved well at
GCSE and either wish to go into the food industry
as a profession, are interested in developing food products to an
industrial standard or have a keen interest in working with Food as
a material.
The course is broken down into key units that are followed
through at both AS and A2 level. These units are:
- Product Development - a ‘design and make’ coursework project.
- Knowledge and Understanding of Food Materials, Products and
- Commercial Product Development.
- Further study of Knowledge and Understanding of Food
Materials, Products and Processing.
You will also study a range of topics such as Nutrition, Food
Advertising, Health and Safety and the design of new food
Assessment for both AS and A2 is through a two hour written
examination which is equal to 50% of your marks. The other 50%
comes from your coursework project and practical work.
All students should be prepared and equipped for a significant
amount of practical work throughout the course.
This course can lead to a wide range of possible career routes
such as Food Technologist, Nutritionist, Food journalist, Product
development, and teaching.

Entry requirements

Grade A*-C in Food Technology GCSE if taken at GCSE *APS: 40 or above
