General Studies at Branston Community Academy

Course description

This course is designed to broaden the experience and education of students, many of whom may have chosen to study other A level subjects in a comparatively narrow field. The course raises awareness of many current controversial issues and enhances student ability and skills to debate from a more informed position.

The General Studies A level is also a valuable source of extra A level points for university entrance and is generally accepted by most universities. It is excellent for developing cross curricular expertise. The course is a skills-based course where students develop thinking, analytical and discursive skills.

Entry requirements

Students who have been accepted into our sixth form to study advanced courses are expected to follow the course unless they follow a curriculum subject which is delivered across the General Studies timetable slot. In this instance, access to the exam is still usually permitted if a student wishes to, passes all the tests and mock exams and shows the appropriate skills and abilities in other subjects.
