Computing A Level at The Studio at Knutsford Academy
This is the additional professional qualification which is unique to the Studio offer. Normally you will only be able to access this qualification in the workplace, therefore presenting you with a real opportunity to enhance your CV and develop a competitive edge in the employment market.
If you opt to follow the Computing Dual Learning Line you will study towards:
- ITIL – Information Technology Infrastructure Library
- PRINCE 2 – Projects in Controlled Environments
This pathway involves high level industry certification which holds significant currency within the work place. This pathway is designed for students who wish to pursue a route to higher education courses or employment within the Computing industry. Equally, students can study Computing A’ Level and go on to a career in Medicine, Law, Business, Politics or any kind of Science.
ITIL is the most widely accepted approach to IT service management in the world and certification will give a real competitive edge. PRINCE2 was developed by the UK Government and is the de facto project management standard.
Elements of the theory required for the GCSE Computing programme will be delivered to you through project based learning. You will discuss and seek to produce solutions to real life briefs such as:
- What computer infrastructure does a primary school need in order to operate effectively?
A local primary school will act as your client. This project will require you to investigate, plan and consult on a new effective computer system to meet the client’s requirements.
You will utilise the experience of computer technicians within our school as well as your own research skills to fully justify your proposals whilst taking into consideration constraints such as a school’s limited budget. This method of learning will empower you to apply your skills to an industry context.
