Childcare Level 3 Apprenticeship at Seevic College

Course description

Our Childcare Apprenticeship will enable you to work with children and young people while also gaining an insight into the factors that shape their development.

Throughout the 18-month course, you will be working in an Early Years environment.  

You will study children's development, from conception to 8yrs, with links made to infleuntial theorists along with the relevant legislation and guidelines that Early Years Practitioners work to.

You will work as a Practitioner in residential care or day care settings and will need some previous experience of working in this sector.

Course content

Core units include:

  • Promoting children’s health and welfare in an early years setting
  • Theories which underpin practice in the early years sector
  • Child development from conception to 7 years.

Entry requirements

General Entry Requirements

  • Grade C/4 or above in GCSE English Language or Literature and Maths.

Specific Entry Requirements

  • Level 2 Children & Young People's Workforce, or equivalent.


You'll attend College one day per week and be assessed in the workplace by your portfolio of evidence.

Future opportunities

You could progress to a higher level Apprenticeship, professional or university level qualification, such as the Foundation Degree in Early Years at Seevic College, or full-time employment in the industry. Potential roles could include being a Care Worker, Childminder or Nursery Nurse.

Further information

At Seevic we offer two progression routes from this qualification - one for those wanting to work within the Early Years sector (Early Years Practitioner) and one for those wanting to work in a school environment (Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools).

We've also incorporated GCSE English and Maths into the course for those wishing to complete the EYP route.
