Motor Vehicle Entry 3 at Sheffield College

Course description

This is a 1 year full time course.

About the course

This course will help prepare you for further study at Level 1. Theory lessons will cover the required technology. These are classroom based, giving you the opportunity to take notes to aid your studies. Practical lessons take place in the motor vehicle workshops and give you the opportunity to develop the skills needed to pass the assessments. You will learn about safety in the workshop, the tools and specialist equipment and how to carry out basic checks and repairs on the vehicles.

You will need to bring your own overalls and safety boots for workshop sessions. All other safety equipment will be provided. The course is approximately 50% theory and 50% practical.

Functional Skills lessons also form an important part of your course.

They include English and maths and you will attend lessons to help improve your skills in these areas. There will be formal assessments when you are ready.

You need to attend regularly and be on time for every lesson. Your progress will be reviewed regularly in tutorial sessions

Personal Study Time

You are expected to study independently in your own time, building up your knowledge of motor vehicle technology.

You will be given passwords for our online learning materials. We have a comprehensive library for you to read suitable textbooks on the subject. Recommended reading is Vehicle and Engine Technology by Heisler, Fundamentals of Motor Vehicle Technology by Hillier, Motor Vehicle Studies for GCSE by Hewitt
