Art at Quintin Kynaston
Choosing the right courses is important if you are to enjoy your time in the sixth form and achieve success. You should consider what are your strengths - what subjects do you enjoy, what skills have you got and how you prefer to be assessed - coursework, exams or a mixture of both?
Firstly you need to decide on whether a one-year or two-year course would be more appropriate. You will need to check on what is required to start the different types of courses. You may well find that you end up starting on a one-year course and later move onto a two-year course. For some students this would be a good route. If you feel you are better at coursework, then you should think seriously about taking an applied AS course which has a larger element of coursework assessment than AS levels. However, if you prefer exams, then AS levels may be more appropriate. For students who wish to follow a more vocational route, we have introduced BTEC Diplomas in Sports Studies and Business Studies (equivalent to 1 A Level). We have also introduced a BTEC Diploma in Health and Social Care. We have successfully introduced courses in Applied A level Business (Single and Double Award). Prior to being offered a place you will be interviewed and guided onto the most appropriate learning pathway. This will be reviewed again once you have received your GCSE results.
