Business Level 3 90 Credits and Extended Diploma at Darlington College

Course description

This course is ideal if you are thinking about a career in business management/enterprise. It will give you the essential business skills to help you find a job and work better once you have gained employment. It does not matter which industry you are interested in working in as business underpins most jobs you may want to do in the future whether working in a multi-national, small business, charity or your own business.

If you have not achieved a C grade or above in English, you will as part of your course be required to work towards this as part of your study programme.  You will be given the opportunity to go on work experience at certain times during your course.

To develop your employability opportunities you will also participate in enterprise classes. This may focus upon additional qualifications, industrial updating and career preparation.

You will study specialist units in the second year relating to business enterprise.

  • Managing a business event
  • Recruitment and selection in business
  • Aspects of contract and business law
  • Internet marketing in business
  • Creative product promotion
  • Business markets and the economy
  • Understanding retailing
  • Supply chain management
  • Starting a small business

Business and Professional Development includes:

Apart from classroom teaching, there will be role play, presentations, group projects and opportunities to observe working practices.

You will choose one specialism and will study this route for the full two years of the course.

In the second year a range of more specialist units covering the areas of Finance, Human Resources and Law will be covered. Possible units include

  • Aspects of contract and business law
  • Aspects of Criminal Law Relating to Business
  • Starting a Small Business

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs grades A* - C including English Language or a Level 2 college course with a MM grade, and successful completion of FS Level 2 English.

We will request a school or college report and you will need to attend an interview at the college.

Assessment

Apart from classroom teaching, there will be role play, presentations, group projects and opportunities to observe working practices.

Future opportunities

Business students have gone on to become office managers, personal assistants and call centre operators.  If you complete the Extended Diploma there is the opportunity to continue your studies at University and specialise in marketing, accountancy and retail.
