Health & Social Care AS A2 at Kettering Buccleuch Academy

Course description

Health and Social Care is offered in the Sixth Form in two ways:

Advanced GCE (Single Award) - 6 units (two years)

Advanced GCE (Double Award) - 12 units (two years)

Kettering Buccleuch Academy provides an excellent opportunity for students who feel working in health and social care might be an option in the future. Alternatively, they may feel a wider brief that includes other 'A' levels is the best way forward as there is still some uncertainty about possible career direction.

The units of work included have a supportive mandatory core. There is then the possibility of some flexibility to follow your own interests.

Course content

The GCE - Double Award involves in the first year completion of 3 mandatory units of work and then a choice is made of 3 further units. This second Year follows a similar pattern. Assessments are either through external examination or portfolio. This course is very suitable for a student who may wish to concentrate more in one area in the Sixth Form rather than the usual 'A' level mix. However, it is equally suitable for a student who wishes to include another 'A' level subject to support a particular career move.

GCE- Single Award is also available. This involves 3 mandatory units and 3 further units over 2 years. It is suitable for those students who want a wider brief in the Sixth Form. In the past, many students who wish to make a career in education have chosen units of work that has given them a taste of what may be expected in future training.
