Psychology AS/A2 Level at Belfairs Academy

Course description

This course is suitable for students wishing to develop and enhance their understanding of human behaviours and mental processes. There is a strong Research Skills component, in terms of discreet skills and the ability to evaluate the wide range of research studies that support the course content.

Course content

Year 12:

Unit 1: Social influence Memory/Attachment

Unit 2: Approaches in Psychology Psychopathology/Research Methods

Year 13:

Unit 1: Social influence Memory/Attachment/Psychopathology

Unit 2: Approaches in Psychology Biopsychology/Research Methods

Unit 3: Issues & Debates in Psychology

One from Relationships or Gender

One from Schizophrenia or Stress

One from Aggression or Forensic Psychology

Entry requirements

English grade B and maths grade C,

Assessment

Year 12: 

 Unit 1 is a 1½ hour written exam (3 compulsory sections)

Unit 2 is a 1½ hour written exam (3 compulsory sections)

Year 13:

Unit 1 is a 2 hour written exam (4 compulsory sections)

Unit 2 is a 2 hour written exam (3 compulsory sections)

Unit 3 is a 2 hour written exam (3 sections, each with a choice of questions)

Future opportunities

Future careers after completion of a degree in psychology include teaching, human resources, police force, prison service or assistant psychologist in a research setting. Students are well placed to progress into higher education as psychology is highly regarded by universities.
