Sport - BTEC Level 2 First Diploma at Whitmore High School

Course description

This one year course offers students an opportunity to study Sport through practical and classroom activities. The BTEC Level 2 First Diploma is a practical, work related course. It will introduce students to the employment areas of sport, fitness and leisure. The course offers an opportunity to examine sport in more detail and is an excellent choice for those looking to progress to Level 3 BTEC Sport courses or apprenticeship schemes.

Course content

Students study 11-13 units in total, three core units, four mandatory units and up to six specialist units. The new BTEC First qualification now includes some external assessment in the form of an online exam for two of the units. The remaining units are assessed internally through a range of methods including presentations, role plays, practical performance, written reports, posters and verbal questioning.

Entry requirements

  •  4 Grade Ds at GCSE including 3s in English Language and Maths


  • Selection in the Watford FC trials or Evidence of a high standard (club level) in any sport 

Future opportunities

Subject Combinations and Progression

You will be able to access a range of professional courses in Sports Leadership and Coaching. If you have not achieved a Grade C in your Maths or English, the Level 2 BTEC will be taken alongside GCSE retakes in those subjects. This is an excellent course for students to progress onto the Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Sport or an apprenticeship in the sports/fitness industry
