Psychology A level (Linear) at Dereham Neatherd High School
Psychology is the science of the mind. The human mind is the most complex machine on Earth. It is the source of all thought and behaviour. Psychologists study human behaviour as a clue to the workings of the mind. Everything we do, think, feel and say, Psychologists take as raw data for testing their theories about how the mind works.
Psychology can be an excellent subject to study alongside both science and humanities subjects. It develops skills such analysis, evaluation, numeracy and literacy. This makes it an ideal subject when applying to university and people with an A level in Psychology have gone on to study degrees in Nursing, Teaching, Medicine, Social Work, Physiotherapy and Zoology, as well as Psychology itself.
Areas of Study Over the two years of the A Level you will study the following:
- Social Influence
- Approaches in Psychology
- Research Methods
- Issues & Debates in Psychology
- Cognition & Development
- Forensic Psychology
Minimum BBCCC including B in English Language GCSE
Everyone will take the AS qualification at the end of the first year which involves sitting two 1.5 hour exams. Those who are successful will then take the full A Level at the end of two years which involves sitting three 2 hour exams. There is no coursework.
