Young ESOL Southgate Campus at Barnet and Southgate College

Course description

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for young adults aged 16 - 18. Study English, Maths, IT, Science and Sport.

Course content

The course is full-time, studying 13 hours a week. ESOL is studied for 7.5 hours (with tutorials), and other subjects for 5 - 6 hours. " English (Trinity ESOL Skills for Life qualifications): Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening " Maths " IT " Science " Sport As well as the timetabled subjects, there are also regular enrichment activities, such as magazine production. In addition, the enrichment programme has a trip out every term (eg. ice skating, museum, horse-riding, London Eye) and a party twice a year.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but you must be a permanent resident, refugee or asylum seeker and aged between 16 and 18 at the start of the course.


Assessment will be through: * Initial: Interview & written test. * On course: Continuous classroom assessment. * Ed-Excel examinations from Entry 1 to Level 2

Future opportunities

Students starting at Entry 1 level can progress to the next level. Entry 2 and Entry 3 students can progress to ESOL Vocational courses the following year, which include: Beauty, Childcare, Health and Social Care, IT and Creative Media, Hospitality and Science.
