Business Studies A-Level at Abbeywood Community School

Course description

This is an academic course, which will require the ability to comprehend and develop business concepts.

Course content

What will I study?

This course is built around a core unit with an enterprise theme, in which you will get the chance to think of a new business idea and research and develop it. You will also get the opportunity to learn about international business, which will prepare you to either work in or to manage a business in such a context.

How will I learn?

You will have the opportunity to apply theory to practical mini enterprise activities which will involve working in teams, competition, analysis, research and communication skills. You will interact with a variety of organisations including touring businesses and attending business talks.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE grades A* - C including English Language. If taken GCSE Business grade C or above or BTEC Business Merit grade


Both AS and A2 will be assessed through written exams based on the following topics:

  • Developing New Business Ideas
  • Managing the Business
  • International Business
  • Making Business Decisions

Future opportunities

You could continue to study to degree level in areas such as Business Studies, Enterprise, Business and Finance and Business Information Systems, Project Management, International Business or vocational qualifications such as Higher Diplomas in Business.
