Course description

Core Mathematics 1 - Algebra and functions; coordinate geometry in the ( x,y) plane; sequences and series; differentiation; integration. This is a non-calculator module, for all other units students may use a calculator. Core Mathematics 2 - Algebra and functions; coordinate geometry in the ( x,y) plane; sequences and series; trigonometry; exponentials and logarithms; differentiation; integration. Mechanics 1 - Mathematical models in mechanics; vectors in mechanics; kinematics of a particle moving in straight line; dynamics of a particle moving in a straight line or plane; statics of a particle; moments.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Mathematics, which could lead onto higher education in areas of Mathematics, related areas such as Engineering, Economics, Physics or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to Mathematics such as an Accountant, Engineer, Financial Adviser, Teacher, Investment banker, Meteorologist, or Market researcher.
