Course description

Awarding Body: Edexcel.

This course is designed to be adaptable to your needs, abilities and career aspirations. It consists o ffour compulsory core units plus a choice of two specialist units. This course is 100% coursework based on real-life, work-based case studies. With the international recognition of BTEC courses such as this, you can progress straight into employment or it has the equivalence of one GCE A Level and carries UCAS points for university applications. Prior knowledge of the subject is not essential.

Course content

The compulsory units cover a wide range of business issues:

Unit 1 - Exploring business activities -This unit is designed to introduce you to business activities including the influence of owners and stakeholders on business organisations and how the purpose of an organisation is expressed through the development of strategic aims and objectives.

Unit 2 - Investigating business resources - It is essential for organisations to manage their resources. The four main resource areas that need to be controlled are human, physical, technological and financial. You will study how businesses make the most of these resources on a day to day basis.

Unit 3 - Introduction to Marketing - At the heart of marketing is the customer, and this unit will introduce you to the tools and techniques used in the modern marketing industry to achieve business objectives by meeting the customer's needs and expectations.

Unit 4 - Effective People, Communication and Information - Effective communication is vital for every organisation. This unit explores how organisations recruit and the most qualified, skilled and experienced people and also looks at communication methods within modern business.

The choice of two specialist units can be made from a variety of business areas including Accounting, Promotion and Marketing, Law, Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Ecommerce, starting up a small business and Business Ethics.

5 A*-C Grades.

Assessment

100% Coursework/Assessment Projects which are substantial and will require you to present evidence to meet a number of specific requirements for each unit.

Future opportunities

The course prepares students to enter a variety of business-related degree level courses, or enter employment.
