Food Technology - GCSE at St James's C E High School

Course description

This course focuses on food as a material for designing and making. The structure of the course is the same as all the other Design Technology courses. Because of the nature of the syllabus there will be a practical element to the work you will do. This will involve: • Experimenting with foods to determine their properties • Testing existing commercial products and comparing results • Developing new products to specific guidelines • Producing finished dishes which develop food preparation skills The syllabus will test your ability to: • Collect information from a variety of sources • Research food products and write up results of their research • Generate a variety of design ideas for new food products • Modify ideas where necessary in order to improve them How will I be assessed? Examination | 40% Coursework | 60% There are two different levels which you can be entered at: • Foundation - C – G • Higher - A* – D Both levels consist of one examination paper and coursework.
