Drama and Theatre Studies A Level at The Cherwell School

Course description

The course is a mixture of practical and written work. Students are accompanied on theatre visits several times per year to see performances focused on a variety of specific theatrical styles including Greek theatre, Brecht, commedia and physical theatre.

The academic and practical elements of the course are combined to promote the students’ abilities to perform, direct and discuss theatrical work.

Course content

During Year 12 candidates devise drama on any topic to be performed in a theatrical style of their choice.

Year 13, candidates perform an extract from any play selected to illustrate their understanding of an influential director, designer, theatre company or other practitioner.

We also offer challenging upper school productions where theatre studies students can develop their stagecraft.

Entry requirements

No specific requirement beyond entrance requirements; C or above in Drama GCSE is an advantage.
