Caring for Children CACHE Diploma - Level 1

Course content

You will study a number of subjects. Listed below are a selection of these subjects:
• Human growth and development
• Play and practical activities
• Preparing for your next steps
• Care of children
• Functional skills – maths
• Functional skills – English.

Entry requirements

For 16/17 entry:

You should have Entry Level 3 or 5 GCSEs grades F – G, possess a positive school report and attend an interview with the course tutor. You will be asked to take an initial assessment in English and/or maths prior to enrolment. NOTE: Caring & Early Years qualifications lead to employment with vulnerable groups of people, therefore applicants are required to have a clear police record and have police clearance before embarking on the programme. There may be exceptions to this where minor non-relevant offences are on record. However, any offence may create difficulties in gaining employment in this field of work. DBS forms are available from college.

Assessment

The course will be assessed by assignments.

Financial information

There is no need to worry about the costs of coming to college as there is lots of financial help available. Our finance and welfare officers will be able to talk to you about any help that may be available to you based on your individual circumstances.

Students aged 16-18 attending a full-time further education course can apply to the 16-18 Bursary Fund for help with college related costs. Free BUS PASS

 

We will provide a free bus pass to help with travel costs for 16-18* year olds on full-time programmes, based on individual circumstances**. To qualify for a free bus pass***, you must live more than one mile from the campus at which you will be studying and not already be in receipt of other financial support, such as Care to Learn funding.

 

*Under 19 as at 31 August 2017.

 

**Students with learning difficulties or disabilities who are unable to access public transport may still be able to receive help – talk to our Student Finance team.

 

***Evidence of family income will need to be provided.

Future opportunities

In order to progress on to another course in care, you must achieve:
• Caring for Children CACHE Diploma Level 1 at a Pass
• Have achieved functional skills (at the level you are working at) in maths, IT and English
• Demonstrate excellent attendance – above 90% (college average)
• Have shown a positive attitude towards your studies throughout the year
• Have a positive report from your course tutor reflecting an excellent work ethos
• Successful completion of additional qualifications within your course.
