BTEC Art and Design: Photography at Cleeve Park School

Course description

This course is designed to equip students with the technical theory and practical experience of photography to enable students to produce original and well executed photographic imagery. This course is particularly suitable for students who wish to study Photography or related subjects at a higher level or who wish to pursue a career in the Arts. The course encourages an interest and enthusiasm for all areas of the Arts and an independence of mind in developing their own ideas.

Students will have the opportunity to develop photographic responses to a range of scenarios such as Journalism, Advertising, events, documentaries and Fine Art in practical, critical and contextual forms. The course incorporates both digital and film based photography, exploring a broad range of photographic processes including digital image manipulation and traditional dark room methods. Students will gain an awareness of different roles, functions, audiences and consumers of photography, as they acquire the skills needed to make independent creative enquiries, leading to accomplished and refined photographic outcomes.

Course content

The course is divided into 6 units, three in year one and two in the second year. Each of these units must be completed in a set amount of time throughout the course. Students will build a body of work which will serve as a portfolio for both University and industry interviews.

BTEC Level 3 Art and design: Photography is a challenging but rewarding subject that blends the technical and creative aspects of photographic image making.
