Course description

Graphic Communication is an exciting multi-media design course.  You will be exploring contemporary design and making stylish graphic design for a range of products.

You will learn about illustration, typography, photo-editing, advertising, display, image manipulation using different CAD packages.

You will also learn how to create professional looking products.

Course content

The course develops your own design skills through visual and written communication.  You will explore a range of design techniques, including traditional drawing methods, 3D sketch modelling, CAD and printing.

You will use a range of materials to produce practical work e.g. point of sale models, flat-pack displays, and complex packaging, advertising compaigns as well as design history.


Entry requirements

5 GCSE's at Grade 4 or above.  (Graphics if studied at 5, English at 5, Fine Art at 5).


AS & A Level:

50% = Coursework portfolio (sketch-book + presentation boards + final products).

50% = 2nd Portfolio plus a timed practical exam (over two days)

A Level is the same structure as AS but is split 60% coursework and 40% exam.  It also includes a written study.


Future opportunities

This could lead to further/higher education courses and careers in Graphic Design, Product Design, Illustration, Teaching, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design and Game Design.
