Child Development Level 3 National Award at Queen Katharine Academy

Course description

5 units make up this qualification, a pass is worth 40 UCAS points, Merit 80 UCAS points, and a distinction is 120 UCAS points Students undertake work related learning for 60 hours.

For students who have chosen their career path and know child care is their future they can enter a Level 3 certificate.

Course content

You will study all areas of child development (physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and communication),. You will apply your knowledge in work placements and learn how to communicate with adults and children alike.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 A*- C GCSE grades including English at grade C or above or have achieved a minimum of a Merit at BTEC First Certificate level.


The course is assessed by work placement reports, witness statements and assignments. There are no exams.

Future opportunities

Upon completion you have assistant practitioner status and can work as a nursery assistant. You can continue training at level 3 or embark upon GNVQ or modern apprenticeship courses. You can continue the qualification to a National Diploma.
