AS - D&T Product Design at Chase Terrace Technology College

Course description

AS level - Units 1 & 2 Unit 1 - Product Study This unit involves an in-depth product analysis resulting in suggestions for improvements. This does not involve the complete redesign of an existing product, but rather the identification of opportunities for its further development or enhancement. Candidates are expected to produce an A3 Design folder with a maximum of 20 pages supported by quality models of their proposed product development. Unit 2—Advanced Innovation Challenge Advanced Innovation Challenge requires the candidate to research a set theme and then respond to a range of challenges under timed examination conditions. Candidates will have the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity and innovation when reacting to a design situation (challenge).

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses such as Art and Design and Computing or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Design and Technology, which could lead onto higher education in areas of and design, technology, architecture or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to design and technology such as an Architect, Carpenter or Computer Technician. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will encourage you to explore your creative mind and help you develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
