Sport Level 3 Diploma (90 Credit) at Aylesbury College

Course description

This qualification offers a direct pathway into the thriving leisure and fitness industry. Exercise and fitness, coaching, and psychology are core elements of this qualification, offering an opportunity to develop a range of practical sport related skills with the vital underpinning theoretical knowledge. The BTEC National Diploma is a vocational and academic qualification. The Extended Diploma is a two year course being completed as a subsidiary Diploma in Year 1, students who successfully complete year one will be able to progress in to year two and the full extended program. You will therefore be enrolled onto the first year of the program for the September start.

Course content

You will gain a broad base of knowledge, enabling you to plan and deliver personal training sessions and programmes to all ages and with consideration to disability and diversity.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at C or above (English, Mathematics, Physical Education and Science are preferred). A full Level 2 Diploma Qualification that is sports related may also be considered.


You will carry out a range of in-depth assignments and practical assessments to complete this course.

Financial information

You will be required to purchase the following - uniform and text books at a cost of approximately £200. A Certificate in First Aid will also be completed. During the course there will be the opportunity to attend events and additional coaching courses at an approximate cost of £100. This two year programme will require approximately 18 hours study per week within college which may include evening and weekend sessions. This will include guided ICT studies. You will also be required to study independently both researching and completing assignment work. The First year is the Subsidiary Diploma and only students achieving the correct grades and attendance will progress into the second year and complete the full Extended Diploma.

Future opportunities

The progression from this programme is the Sport HNC or University Degree.

Positions that would be open to you include Sports Management, Sports Coaching, Leisure and Fitness Management, community sports involvement.
