Computing BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate at Stanley Park High School

Course description

This qualification is designed to support learners who are interested in learning about the computing sector alongside other fields of study, with a view to progress to a wide range of higher education courses. This course is designed with employers in mind to include the knowledge, understanding, skills and attributes required in the Computer technology sector.

Course content

In year 12 and year 13 you will be learning unit 1computer science which is about the principles that underpin all areas of computer science. It will develop your computational – thinking skills and you will apply those skills to solve problems. Learners will study unit 2 the fundamental principles of how computer systems work, including the role of hardware and software. In unit 7 learners will study IT system security threats, including data encryption with a focus on cryptography. For unit 15 learners will learn how to design and create a website using coding language HTML.

The exam units will be assessed through written examination. Each exam is 2 hours long

5 GCSE A* - C
Grade C in GCSE Maths
Grade C in GCSE English
