Travel and Tourism (BTEC Extended Certificate Single Award) at Roundhay School All through education from 4 to 18
BTEC Travel and Tourism is a practical, industry based course. It will introduce to you to all the different elements of the industry while teaching you the skills you will need to either further study or work.
Unit 1: The World of Travel and Tourism - this unit provides the foundation for learners to study other units in travel and tourism. Learners will explore all aspects of industry, understanding the scope of the industry with a 1.5 hour exam
Unit 2: Global destinations - Learners investigate the features and appeal of global destinations. They prepare travel itineraries and recommend suitable destinations for customers. Learners will be assessed with practical real-life tasks set and marked by Pearson and completed under supervised conditions.
Unit 3: Managing the customer experience - Learners investigate the significance of customer service and apply ways of managing customer experience. Assessed by real-industry scenario assignments set by your teacher.
Unit 15: Visitor attractions - Learners investigate the nature and role of both built and natural visitor attractions, their appeal, popularity, response to dvierse visitor needs and the importance of delivering a memorable visitor experience. The unit is assessed internally by an assignment set by your teacher.
General entry requirement:
Students should achieve GCSE grade 5 in English Language and Mathematics plus 3 further GCSE grades 9-4 (or grade C in non-reformed qualifications) AND meet the individual subject specific requirements.
Assessment method includes one external exam, a practical real-life task set and marked by pearson and completed under supervised conditions, and one unit assessed internally by an assignment set by your teacher.
Further studies at University into a range of courses such as Event Management, Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Manaagement, Marketing, Business, Customer Service. Some students seek work in the industry immediately, or opt to get an apprenticeship.
