BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT (Games Development) at Bournville College

Course description

This course is aimed at students wishing to follow a career in the computer games industry. You will study a general IT qualification which includes specialist game development units.

We have established ourselves as a Computing at School (CAS) hub and have become a Network of Excellence Lead School for Computer Science teaching. By establishing the hub at Bournville College, it helps ensure that we understand first-hand the challenges with computing and aim to provide expert subject and pedagogical knowledge.

Entry requirements

Students will be considered depending upon qualifications, experience and interview. Typically you will have one of the following: 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above including GCSE Grade C or above in maths and English Language. BTEC Level 2 Diploma in IT (Merit) or an equivalent IT qualification is desirable. Evidence of creativity which could include artwork or computer generated designs However, if you do not have any IT qualifications you will be required to successfully complete an IT test at enrolment. All students will also be required to attend and satisfactorily complete a formal induction period.


A grade scale of pass, merit and distinction is applied to all units.  All units will be internally assessed through portfolio evidence.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of year 1 will allow you to move onto year 2 or consider employment in areas involving the use of IT.
