A level Art at St Bede's Catholic College

Course description

The Art Department has specifically chosen a course to suit the diverse needs of students. The AS and A2 in Art and Design is great because its structure and the way art is assessed is very similar to GCSE, which is perfect for natural progression. Both courses will allow pupils to explore and experiment with a range of media, develop ideas and delve deep into the work of others, to a much higher standard.

Course content

The first year will start off as a general art course with lots of exploration which can be used to develop your own specialised area. This may be Painting, Printing, Textile art and/or mixed media. Following this you will complete a practical examination.

The second is tailored to encourage the pupils to work much more independently. You will produce a specialised portfolio of studies in your chosen area and produce a written essay to support your studies. As well as this you will complete a practical exam.

AS level assessment units:

Unit 1: Coursework portfolio

Unit 2: externally set assignment

A question paper for AS will be provided with a selection of inspiring starting points from which to choose. Using one starting point, a body of research and investigation will take place followed by a supervised 5 hour exam resulting in a final outcome.

A2 level assessment unit:

Unit 3: Personal investigation
