Animal Management Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma at Bridgwater College

Course description

This course is open to anyone studying A Levels with the aim of a career in animal management. The Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma provides an additional part-time vocational qualification for students on a relevant  A level course with the college. Students should be planning to progress to University to study subject areas such as veterinary science, zoology, animal nursing and other related subjects.

Course content

This course will give you an introduction to animal management topics. You will complete 6 modules on the Diploma which will include:

  • Business Management in the Land Based Sector
  • Understand and Promote Animal Health
  • Undertake Animal Handling and Safe Working
  • Plan and Monitor Animal Feeding
  • Manage Animal Accommodation
  • Understand the Principles of Wildlife Rehabilitation and Management
  • Understand and Interpret Animal Behaviour and Communication.

Entry requirements

You will need at least five GCSEs in the A* - C range, including Maths, English and Science or an appropriate Level 2 qualification and to have been accepted onto an A Level programme of study. You will be invited to attend an interview at the Cannington Centre.


Assessment will be by course work. This will take the form of written assignments, presentations and practical work.

Future opportunities

Students may progress to HE courses in Animal Management, Animal Behaviour, Ecology or Zoology, or enter employment at a supervisory level in animal sanctuaries, grooming parlours, veterinary practices wildlife parks etc. You could progress to a Foundation Degree in Applied Animal Management delivered at our Cannington Centre. On successful completion of the foundation degree you could progress onto our BSc Honours top up programme.
