Pharmacy Services Apprenticeship at Preston's College

Course description

If you are working or want to work in a pharmacy then this apprenticeship is ideal. Working as a pharmacy technician or assistant you will prepare, supply and dispense medicines and products prescribed for patients under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. You could be working in the community or a hospital either way you’ll meet lots of people and gain the skills and knowledge you need to work in the industry.

Course content

Units of study:
– Assisting with the provision of pharmacy customer service
– Ensuring your own provision of pharmacy customer service
– Supporting the work of your team
– Selling over the counter medicines
– Providing information to customers on symptoms and products
– Preparing pharmacy products
– Supporting the use of specialist IT in the pharmacy

You are also required to study maths, English and computing, as well as any additional qualifications that your employment needs.

Entry requirements

All Apprenticeships require an initial assessment, interview and employment in the industry. GCSE English and maths is preferable (at grade C). if you do not have this qualification you will need to complete an assessment and study maths and English as part of your Apprenticeship.

Assessment

You will be assessed in one or more of the following ways:
– Course work
– Oral questioning
– Portfolio of evidence
– Practical observations
– Practical and written examinations

Future opportunities

The Level 2 Apprenticeship provides progression to the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Pharmacy Services.

Once you have completed the Level 3 Apprenticeship you will be have the necessary skills and qualifications required for working within the industry and be able to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
