Performing Arts BTEC First Diploma at Epping Forest College

Course description

The BTEC First Diploma in Performing Arts is designed to provide a thorough grounding in Performing Arts to allow you to progress on to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts.

The performing arts industry offers many exciting opportunities including acting, direction, stage management and theatre and arts administration. By focusing on the practical application of performing arts skills through a series of professionally realistic, public performance projects you will be introduced to the skills needed by this highly exciting and competitive industry and be able to begin to develop them.

Students have the opportunity to visit the West End and Fringe shows. You will take part in our Industry Weeks and be directed by visiting professionals. You will also take part in local and national performances.

Course content

The aim of this course is for you to experience different performance styles, to try out new ideas and gain an understanding of the performing arts industry.

You will study the following areas of performance:

• Dance performance • Development of Drama • Acting • Working in the Performing Arts • Singing

You will be taught by a series of practical assignments varying from informal small group presentations to larger public performances. You will be assessed regularly throughout the course.

English and Maths are required life skills. As part of your study programme we will support you towards an A*–C grade at GCSE English and Maths. If you’ve already got these grades, we will work with you to develop your skills further.

As part of your study programme you will be given the opportunity to build skills required for employment through workshops and will be expected to undertake work experience with local businesses, councils or voluntary organisations.

Assessment

You will be assessed by a mix of coursework, rehearsals and performances.

Financial information

You will be required to wear stage blacks. You will need black leggings or joggers and black trainers with non marking soles. Your material fees cover; T Shirts x2 Hoody Stationary Kit

Future opportunities

You can move on to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Dance or Performing Arts if you achieve a Merit or Distinction. Because this is an introductory course, the Level 2 Diploma will not normally lead directly into professional performance work.

      The College is easily accessed by less then 10 minutes drive from both the M25 and M11 motorways.

      We’re also a 5 minute walk from the London Underground at Debden Station on the Central Line, 
      and we’re a 10 minute cab ride from Chingford Overground rail station.

      Once you arrive at the College there is a free car park with over 250 spaces, 
      as well as designated areas for coaches and other large vehicles.

       

      Once on site you can have access to our catering facilities (subject to agreement) and a range of rooms, 
      from our Theatre, with 264 retractable seats, to a standard classroom.

      We also have full IT support, and can offer rooms with either Macs or PCs running the latest industry-standard software.
