Modern Languages (French, German, Spanish) A level Edexcel at Wimbledon College
Modern Languages are highly regarded by universities and studying a language at A Level offers the opportunity to not only continue with languages in further education, but also to integrate it as a part of many degrees, thus adding an extra life skill to your CV. The emphasis in new syllabuses is on contemporary issues and communication skills, the ability to discuss and debate contemporary and at times controversial society issues in the target language. The course provides many opportunities to attend conferences and cultural events throughout the year. There is also an opportunity for subsidised work experience abroad during February half term - in France, Spain or Germany which has proved an invaluable experience for previous students.
For Level 3 courses - five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C, with at least 3 B grades entry requirement for each course – this is usually a grade B or better in each subject to be taken at Advanced Level (or BTEC3) or relevant cognate subjects as set out in the published entry requirements (see page 12) for Level 2 courses - five or more GCSEs at A*-D
The course is assessed by a final examination. This consists of four modules (two for AS and a further two for the A Level). Unit 1 is the oral unit for AS and Unit 2 is the Listening, Reading and Writing assessment for AS. For the A Level there is an additional Oral unit (Unit 3) and a final written assessment (Unit 4).
